Spirituality in the Wild Moon

Some of you have asked, if the Wild Moon is spiritual in any way or follows any particular traditions. So I’ll do my best to clarify this question.

Spirituality is a highly emotionally charged word that everyone understands differently. However, when we live outdoors in Nature for a long time, we usually reach a point where we explore our own understanding and feeling of spirituality. We experience a direct connection with all the other living beings around us: those that provide us with food, those that can pose a threat to us, but also those that offer us protection or provide us with materials for tools and buildings. We may even establish a connection with all those that we have not yet noticed in our lives.

Then we may still know and explain everything biologically, geologically, chemically, or psychologically, but we also feel the magic behind a sunset, the fire, the wind rustling through the leaves, or an encounter with Beaver at dawn or Moose on one of our exploration tours. If we open ourselves up to it, we can even recognize the magic in the microorganisms that decompose our precious food, as they ensure that the cycle of death and new life remains complete.

Nature spirituality

For many, spirituality is either associated with a particular religion or belief, or they associate it with esoteric nonsense. But when we live outdoors, we often feel deep down that there must be some force that connects us all. It’s not about performing special rituals from a particular tradition. It’s much more about perceiving more closely, perceiving more openly what is there. Whether we can find words for it or not – it’s often better not to define our perception with familiar words.

This elusive force that connects us all, and which we only perceive when we are fully present in the here and now and connected with our body and soul, is what I would call Nature spirituality. Drawing on this force, we no longer need to adopt rituals from other cultures, but can create new rituals or simply perform every single step and every single action with greater awareness, like a prayer. Then we feel the difference between lighting and tending a fire with love and connection, or simply completing a task. We may recognize it by how well or smoke-free the fire burns, but we definitely recognize what it does to our body, mind, and soul.

The invitation of the natural world

In the stress of everyday life, this feeling, this spirituality, can easily be lost. This is also because we quickly fall back into old patterns. This can also happen to us when we live outdoors with Nature. But the natural world constantly provides new invitations to return to the moment and to experience the magic of presence in the Now again and again. Even if magic sometimes means that we can finally see and experience pain that we have not been able or willing to feel for a long time, in order to release the inner power that had to hold it in place.

This allows us to gradually learn to break old patterns and to be more and more consciously present in each moment and be ourselves. Because this allows us to feel the connection to ourselves, others, and the greater whole. And what could be more spiritual than that?

Connection as the meaning of life

Then the question of what life is actually about falls away, because every moment, every breath, and every step already provides us with the answer. So if you’ve ever wondered whether the Wild Moon program follows any traditions or incorporates spiritual aspects, I can only say: yes and no. We follow the oldest tradition of all, connecting with the natural world and finding answers in it. And we invite everyone to experience every moment with complete devotion. However, there are no guidelines on HOW each individual does this for themselves, nor on whether anyone wants to do it at all or to what extent. It is simply an invitation to connect. Because at its core, all of life on this earth is about relationships.
