Some people are true wild people at heart.
They go on journeys to the edge of their comfort zone and beyond. Exploring the outer world of living very simply with the natural world, together with a small group of other humans. On this exploration, they are also guided to their inner world that they brought with them from their civilized life. Their fears, patterns of communication, but also their creativity and strength. Each person on our team is one of them.
In the Northwoods of Wisconsin, USA, we lived up to a year primitively in Nature and are now offering to share our experience by sharing our stories.
We experienced how it could actually feel like to live fully connected with the natural world. Letting go of a romanticized image and ready to learn about the real struggles and gifts of this way of living.
The setting
We had a dream of living out in the woods in a clan. We wanted to know whether it was still possible to live in the wilderness these days. We wanted to fully dive into a life like this, finding out what it takes. So we set out to the wilderness, guided by Teaching Drum Outdoor School.
Together with a group of people who didn’t know each other before – some of them with barely any knowledge of living outside – we spent up to an entire annual cycle (11 months) in a remote woodland area.
During this time, we had to find common ground with strangers, figure out how to create simple comforts and deal with having barely any contact with civilized life. We were challenged by making fire in the simplest of ways, battling mosquitoes, adapting to ever-changing weather, dealing with ever-fluctuating food supplies, handling extreme cold, as well as our personal struggles we brought with us.
In this evening we will talk about our intense experiences from our impressive time in the great, vast wilderness.
